  SQL 2005 Finaly Released!
MySQLSQL released after two year delay

SOFTWARE giant Microsoft has finally got around to releasing SQL 2003, two years late. SQL 2005 hits the shops today nearly five years after the last SQL release. Despite the snail pace release, the software has had good reviews from its beta testers and trial customers.

According to Computerworld, some of the punters describe SQL as "not a 1.0 version" and will probably not need the patch management or service packs of previous versions.

Reviewers think that it could cause a few headaches for the market leaders Oracle and IBM within the coming months.

SQL Server 2005 supports database encryption, native storage, full-text search, and querying of XML documents. It has added business intelligence functionality and is integrated with Visual Studio 2005, so that developers can use C# or Visual Basic if they want.

However, even after five years, some of the promised functions including database mirroring for automatic backups aren't due to be available until next year.
